Local Law Enforcement Block Grants (LLEBG)
Through the efforts of CCASA, the US Department of Justice Local Law
Enforcement Block Grants provided joint funding for MAD DADS and the
Marion County Drug Court. The purpose of the grant is to provide
units of local government with funds to underwrite projects to reduce
crime and improve public safety.
Marion County Local Law Enforcement Block Grant totaled $280,932. The services provided under it include:
- Marion County Sheriff's Office provides overtime for patrol,
fugitive, information services, youth and community services divisions
and various equipment purchases. Funded at $233,174.
- MAD DADS of Greater Ocala, Inc. Crime Prevention Program, which is
an alternative sentencing project with focus on relapse prevention,
ongoing aftercare and strengthening of the family through parent and
guardian involvement in the rehabilitation process. During 2003,
81 young men participated in the alternative sentencing program, and 45
successfully completed the program. Funded at $23,879.
- Marion County Drug Court is designed to reduce recidivism by
offering an alternative to incarceration and prosecution. The goal is
to reduce recidivism of offenders within the criminal justice system,
by providing those individuals with the means necessary to lead a
productive, drug and crime free lifestyle. During 2003, there
were 76 clients enrolled and 39 graduates from the program.
Funded at $23,879.
City of Ocala Local Law Enforcement Block Grant totaled $162,101. The services provided under it include:
- Ocala Police Department purchased In Car Video Cameras and related equipment for use in patrol cars. Funded at $126,439.
- Marion County Drug Court. Services mentioned above. Funded at $17,831.
- MAD DADS of GREATER OCALA, INC. Services mentioned above. Funded at $17,831.
